Plexus/Explet.a Worm No Match for DeepNines-protected Networks
As new e-mail worms target unpatched Microsoft Windows machines, DeepNines protects networks from invasionDALLAS, TEXAS - Discovered late last week, the Plexus/Explet.a worm exploits the vulnerabilities in unpatched Windows operating systems. Because DeepNines detects and blocks suspicious packets outside the router, networks protected by DeepNines' security platform will not be affected by this most recent attack.
"The Plexus/Explet.a worm opens a backdoor through the TCP port 1250," says DeepNines President and COO Dan Jackson. "Because our security platform sits in front of the network's router, that backdoor remains locked for worms like this. Our security system does not expose itself, but it will recognize irregularities in these propagation stages and immediately block that communication port to prevent propagation."
The Plexus/Explet.a worm represents a blended threat to networks. Companies need to protect their networks from these exploits. These latest worms further emphasize the need for a layered security approach that must start outside the farthest point - the router.
Last week, another worm, Korgo.i, entered corporate networks. This new threat has created further need for companies to protect themselves. The Korgo.i worm will self-propagate into networks and exploit multiple ports, potentially allowing remote access to hackers. DeepNines continues to monitor and protect its customers' networks, keeping the vulnerability at bay. As a result, customers are not experiencing any degradation to their networks, and their ability to conduct business has not been impacted negatively.
