DeepNines and SurfControl Unite to Create New Standard for Online Security in K-12 Education

Potentially dangerous software such as peer-to-peer (used for music and video downloads) and online chat cannot be detected by content filters because filters are designed to block only specific websites or URLs. In addition, students can easily exploit filters by using web proxies to circumvent them. Web proxies allow a student to make an indirect connection to the Internet through an outside proxy server. Once the student has established this connection, the proxy then searches the Internet for the desired website (such as MySpace.com) on behalf of the student. These web proxies are seen as valid connections by content filters, since the student isn't connecting directly to a restricted website.

There are hundreds of web proxy variations, with only one "known" type that can be caught by current content filtering technology. DeepNines blend of patented technology and proprietary detection methods have the ability to detect and stop all attempted web proxy connections, as well as other types of traffic that cannot be detected by filters including peer-to-peer and online chat.
