DeepNines Releases Version 4.0 of its Security Edge PlatformT

Network security systems provider offers improved performance, speed and functionality in router security appliance

DALLAS, TEXAS - DeepNines Technologies, a network security systems provider, today announced version 4.0 of its Security Edge PlatformTM (SEP) with performance enhancements that include full-featured throughput to 2 Gbps, up to 1 million simultaneous conversations and increased WAN options from T1 to OC12.

"Due to the tremedous success we have had in front of the router, we wanted to expand our product portfolilo and pursue opportunities focused at the core of enterprise networks," said Dan Jackson, president and COO of DeepNines Technologies. "We have added critical security features and Layer 7 intelligence for our customers, demonstrating our ability to get customer requirements to market quickly without sacrificing performance. With SEP version 4.0, DeepNines will continue to lead the way with the only modular, converged security platform that offers router protection."

DeepNines offers two families of appliances: the Edge focused at the perimeter and Frontline focused on protecting critical applications. These additional appliances allow DeepNines to target every customer in the market. With the release of version 4.0, the SEP's performance capabilities now range from 10 Mbps up to 2 Gbps and WAN capabilities range from T1 to OC12,

DeepNines SEP is a converged security appliance that is deployed in front of the router, or at critical points in the network architecture, and acts as the first line of defense against threats. The SEP evaluates all network traffic at the packet level, both ingress and egress, to determine what is valid and what is malicious. Since the SEP is a software-based solution, it does not require forklift upgrades like many other hardware-based networking solutions.

"We needed a security system that would protect us without a lot of human intervention. Before the Security Edge Platform, we had plenty of problems," said Anthony Schroeder, director of network services at Hamline University. "DeepNines was excellent at helping us test and deploy the system. The appliance has been working without issues since we implemented it. We are very happy with our purchase."

The SEP's patent-pending technology is anomaly and behavior based in order to mitigate unknown and zero-day attacks. To deal with known attacks, the SEP integrates best-of-breed, signature-based security technologies that dynamically update and upgrade. Once packets pass through the SEP's anomaly-based detection, additional signature-based technology can be instrumental in identifying and blocking CGI exploits, buffer overflows and specific application exploits.

Additional features of the SEP include DeepNines Zero Footprint TechnologyTM (ZFT), which gives the SEP complete invisibility within the network (no IP or MAC address) to prevent hackers from exploiting router vulnerabilities. The company's Multi-Method Inspection (MMI) process thoroughly evaluates all network traffic at wire speed, inspecting 256 protocols compared to competing solutions that only inspect between four and 13 protocols.

The Security Edge Platform is currently available, with pricing beginning at $5,000.
