Enterprise 2.0 Enablement for Enterprise Directory Services
DeepNines ID Manager
Enterprise directory services are valuable and common tools for mapping individual people as users and groups in a network for identification purposes. Today’s enterprise 2.0 leverages Internet technologies, applications and tools to liberate the workforce from the constraints of legacy communication and productivity tools. Enterprise 2.0 utilizes the collective intelligence of many, translating to a huge competitive advantage in the form of increased innovation, productivity and agility. However, managing the users of an enterprise 2.0 environment is extremely difficult without enterprise directory service such as Active Directory, eDirectory or Open Directory. For Web security, it is often difficult to implement global usage, security policies and bandwidth management rules without the ability to identity users and groups within the Web security gateway. In many instances, certain groups of users or departments need priority on bandwidth, or access to certain content and applications that are otherwise blocked for the organization as a whole.
DeepNines ID Manager provides seamless integration with directory services to identify and manage the users within the network. ID Manager maps user identities to DeepNines Secure Web Gateway to provide visibility, reporting and management by user and group. This granular control optimizes network bandwidth by ensuring that policies are created and applied only to applicable users and user groups. ID Manager integrates with enterprise 2.0 environments using enterprise directory services from eDirectory, Active Directory and Open Directory, for the identification and management of users within the DeepNines Secure Web Gateway.
Constant polling captures all users as they log onto the system
DeepNines products that utilize ID Manager are the Secure Web Gateway and iTrust Agent, and the technology’s protection and findings are logged for reporting by the Network Security Manager.
Directory Services Integration. DeepNines ID Manager integrates with directory services from eDirectory, Active Directory and Open Directory. A lightweight agent is installed on the directory services sever, and constantly polls the sever for information on the users that are logged on, immediately syncing the information with DeepNines Secure Web Gateway. Once parameters are set in the system for a user either individually, as part of a group or both, those controls are applied to that user whenever he/she is logged on to the network.
Enforce Custom Policies. DeepNines Secure Web Gateway uses ID Manager to enforce AppControl, Bandwidth Manager and Content Filter policies by user or user group. Any of the customized controls for bandwidth, applications and content available in Secure Web Gateway can be applied to users and/or user groups through ID Manager.
Detailed Reporting on Users and Groups. With ID Manager enabled, detailed reports on individuals and groups are available through DeepNines Network Security Manager. Reports on security risks, bandwidth usage and policy violations are available by user and group identity and can be used to understand how resources are or should be allocated.
