With DeepNines Bandwidth Manger, offending traffic is automatically throttled, while critical applications are given priority.
Bandwidth Controls. Bandwidth Manager can apply different controls to any traffic, content or application. The controls available for managing bandwidth are the following:

Customizable Criteria. Bandwidth Manager's allow, block, limit and prioritize controls can be applied to any content or applications based on a wide variety of criteria including:
Application: Bandwidth Manager can identify specific applications and apply a variety of controls by application, so that mission-critical applications specific to your organization are always accessible while unwanted applications are eliminated.
Individual Users and/or User Groups: After setting up ID Manager, bandwidth can be managed by individual user or user groups. Bandwidth can be controlled in order to give certain users and groups priority based on department or management level.
Time-of-Day: Controls can be set for specific time periods in order prevent bandwidth saturation during high traffic times. For example, traffic can be throttled first thing in the morning when everyone is logging on and checking email all at the same time.
Port: Bandwidth can be managed by port to give ports with the highest priority the most bandwidth. Traditional ports such as port 80 for Web traffic can be prioritized, while less active ports can be limited in order to ensure that bandwidth is being consumed appropriately.
Protocol: Although Bandwidth Manger can control traffic based on any protocol, the most common protocols are TCP for stateful traffic such as Web pages and UDP for sessionless traffic such as streaming media. Bandwidth Manager applies true rate shaping for TCP traffic, as opposed to a simple packet drop, which improves network efficiency by eliminating retransmissions. On UDP traffic, Bandwidth Manger uses adaptive rate control to manage bandwidth while still keeping the session active.
